About Recreational Dance Programs

Common questions and tips from our work with Mansfield customers.

What is the difference between Recreational and Competitive Dance?
Recreational Dance focuses on learning, fitness, and fun, with a lighter weekly commitment and no competition travel. Competitive Dance adds more training hours, competition choreography, and performance coaching for dancers who want to compete. At Studio 65 in Mansfield, recreational dancers still get chances to perform, and students can ask about moving into the Competition Team later.
How many classes per week should a recreational dancer take?
Many recreational dancers start with one class a week, which is enough to learn the basics and find out whether they enjoy a style. Dancers who want to progress faster often add a second class or another style. Studio 65 holds classes Monday through Thursday afternoons and evenings, plus Saturday and Sunday. Email hello@studio65.dance to find a schedule that fits.
Will my shy child fit in at a Recreational Dance class?
Recreational classes are a good place for quieter kids to build confidence at their own pace. Studio 65 groups dancers by age and skill level, so students learn with peers at a similar stage. Families can tour the Mansfield studio and watch a class first, which helps a nervous child know what to expect before the first day.

Tip

Make the first class easier for young dancers

Arrive a few minutes early so your child can see the studio before class starts. Pack a water bottle, pull their hair back, and dress them in comfortable, fitted clothes they can move in. Talk about what they might learn that day. Watching a Studio 65 class together beforehand can also ease first-day nerves.
