About Acrobatics & Flexibility

Common questions and tips from our work with Mansfield customers.

What is Acro dance?
Acro dance combines dance technique with acrobatic skills like walkovers, handstands, and balances, performed with the flow and musicality of dance. Unlike gymnastics, the tricks connect to choreography instead of being scored on equipment. At Studio 65 in Mansfield, Acrobatics classes build strength, flexibility, and control step by step, with instructors spotting dancers as they learn new skills.
Is Acrobatics safe for young dancers?
Acrobatics is safest when skills are taught in the right order, and that is how Studio 65 approaches it. Dancers work on flexibility, conditioning, and strength before moving on to inversions and tumbling, and instructors spot students as they learn new skills. Email hello@studio65.dance to ask about age groups and how the Mansfield studio places new Acrobatics students.
How long does it take to improve flexibility?
Flexibility improves with steady, gradual work, and progress looks different for every dancer. Most dancers notice changes over weeks and months of regular stretching, not days. Forcing a stretch can cause injury, so patience matters. Studio 65's flexibility and conditioning work helps dancers build range safely, and instructors can suggest stretches to practice between classes.
Do I need gymnastics experience for Acrobatics classes?
No. Acrobatics classes at Studio 65 start with the basics, like conditioning, flexibility, and simple balances, then move ahead as each dancer is ready. Students coming from gymnastics may move faster on certain skills, but beginners are welcome. The Mansfield studio has youth and adult options, so ask which class fits your age and experience.

Tip

Warm up before stretching at home

Stretching cold muscles raises the risk of strains. Before working on splits or backbends at home, spend five minutes warming up with jumping jacks, jogging in place, or a quick dance routine. Then hold gentle stretches without bouncing. Do not try inversions or tumbling at home without a trained spotter. Save new skills for class.
